The Proprietors
We didn't choose 13. 13 chose us.
This is an apothecary of the uncanny — a place to examine, catalogue, and understand the superstitions that have shaped human civilisation more profoundly than most people realise. We're not believers. We're not debunkers. We're something more interesting than either: we're fascinated.
The Number 13 began as a collection of late-night rabbit holes: why do otherwise rational people avoid certain hotel rooms? Why did Apollo 13 launch at exactly 13:13? Why does the 13th floor not exist in buildings that obviously have 13 floors? Why does the same number terrify people who have never heard of each other, living on opposite sides of the globe in civilisations that never once communicated?
The questions led to more questions. The more we researched, the stranger it got. And eventually, a proper obsession became a proper project.
"The question was never whether superstition is rational. The question is why it's so universal — across cultures, centuries, and civilisations that never once spoke to each other."
Every week, we add to the specimen shelf — a new entry cataloguing the world's superstitions, their origins, their cultural reach, and what they reveal about the very human need to find meaning in numbers, days, and patterns.
And now — we built an oracle. Ask it anything. It has been accumulating this knowledge for a very long time.
